Nengi, Dorathy and other celebrities on an autism awareness day special on Ndani TV. Autism awareness is something we surely do need as a nation as little is done in that area. Research shows that in every 125-150 children, one child is living with this condition, in total there are about 600,000 Nigerian children with autism. A little background on what it is. Autism is a behavioral syndrome due to neurological dysfunction as a result of neurodevelopmental disorder. The common symptom you would notice in these children would be delayed milestone (walk late, speak late than other kids), they are socially awkward, and they experience difficulty in verbal and nonverbal communication. The sad thing is that in our society, most people don’t even understand what this is all about or even know how to go about handling it but with creating awareness people will get to know more about autism.
A media house called the Ndani TV saw the need to create awareness for autism in Nigeria, so they invited some celebrities which includes Dorathy Bachor, Ik Osakioduwa, Ibitoye Tosin Peter, Nengi Rebecca Hampson Emmanuel Taymesan to be a voice for Autism by taking part in there #NdaniTGIFShow.

It was an interesting show, they were asked for the meaning of ASD which most of them answered correctly as Autism spectrum disorder. They were also asked about how early can autism be diagnosed in a child and the answer for that is 18 months to 3years. They were also asked if it was more common in girls than boys, the answer is it is more common in boys than girls with the ratio of 4:1. They were also asked if the people with autism looked different from people without autism and the answer for that is false because it is more of a behavioral disorder. It was indeed entertaining and at the same time an educative session.
